Another game with pretty good lighting is Alan Wake. Hell lighting is the entire gimmick of that game.

As for shadows I've noticed most FPS have it as a setting defaulting off for performance. Even Tomb Raider did.

Yeah, I know, performance. On a side note that is related, one of my favorite SL options is "See yourself in Mouselook".

What's odd is even N64 Ocarina of Time got right using the actual Sun as the lens flare/light shaft source if it was present.

I love good lighting in games these days. What really bugs me is when the player has no shadow in FPS games.
